WebIssues 1.1.4 released

The most important new feature in the 1.1.4 release of WebIssues is the simplified mobile version of the Web Client, designed for mobile phones and other devices with small screens. The program detects if the user is using such device and automatically redirects to the mobile version. It is also possible to manually switch between the full and mobile versions of the user interface. To switch to the mobile version, select the Mobile version option in the top right corner of the page. To switch to the full version, expand the tools menu using the button in the top right corner of the page and select the Full version option.

The Desktop Client was ported to Qt5 for better performance and stability. This change doesn't affect the users of the pre-built Windows installers, however if you build WebIssues from sources, you will now need version 5 of Qt; compilation with version 4 is no longer supported.

This version also fixes a number of bugs, including but no limited to:

  • Fixed support for long TLDs in email addresses; fixed encoding in outbound emails so they no longer cause problems with email servers which do not handle 8-bit encoding properly; fixed handling illegal line breaks in inbound emails so they are not rejected.
  • Fixed handling large lists of drop down items in both the server and the client; previously sufficiently large lists of items could crash both the server and the client.

WebIssues 1.1.3 released

The latest minor release of WebIssues adds the possibility to archive and unarchive existing projects. When a project is archived, it is completely hidden from the projects tree and all folders and issues stored in it become inaccessible. However, unlike deleted projects, archived projects can be easily restored when necessary. This feature is especially useful when you have many projects and some of them are obsolete, but you don't want to lose any information in case it becomes necessary to recover it.

This release also fixes a potential security vulnerability in the WebIssues Web Client which makes it possible to inject JavaScript code into the page using specially crafted drop down list items. Although there is no evidence that this vulnerability can be exploited in any way by users who don't already have full administration rights to the WebIssues system, it is recommended to update existing installations to the latest version.

Some other minor bugs were also fixed in this version, including changing project access by project administrators in the Web Client, populating user drop down lists in public projects in the Desktop Client, sorting folders in drop down lists in the Web Client and closing issue details after search in the Web Client.

Finally, thanks to the contributors to the WebIssues translation project, a Chinese translation was added to both the Web Client and the Desktop Client, and a Turkish translation is also available for the Web Client.

WebIssues 1.1.2 released

Version 1.1.2 of WebIssues has a few new features and fixes some bugs found in version 1.1.1. The most important changes include:

  • It is now possible to export the list of issues in CSV format also from the Web Client.
  • The quick search box in the list of issues can now be used to quickly find an issue with the specified identifier. Note that in order to find an issue in any folder, you can still use the Goto Issue command.
  • The markup language used for descriptions and comments now includes a [rtl] tag for marking blocks of text written right-to-left.
  • It is possible to configure the page size in the projects tree in the Web Client.
  • In the Desktop Client it's now possible to increase the font size in issue details and projects summary, using the Settings option. This solves a problem on some systems where the default font size is too small.
  • The Desktop Client now attempts to log in automatically when the session expires, for example when the computer wakes from hibernated state.
  • New French and Italian translations were added in both clients; Ukrainian translation was added in the Web Client.

WebIssues 1.1.1 released

Version 1.1.1 is a bugfix only release which fixes a few problems with the Desktop Client, although it also affects the WebIssues Server. These problems include:

  • creating public alerts
  • displaying project descriptions
  • small font size in issue details and comment and description editor in some configurations
  • double header in issue details report

It is therefore recommended to update both the server and the clients from version 1.1 if you use the Desktop Client.

WebIssues 1.1 released

Version 1.1 of WebIssues is available for download. It adds many new features to WebIssues, including issue and project descriptions, text formatting, email inbox and subscriptions, global lists of issues, public alerts, anonymous access and more. Since it's impossible to describe everything in a short port, I created a video presentation showing the most important new features. If you've never used WebIssues, you can also learn how it works and looks like from this presentation:

The new server and client packages can be downloaded from the Downloads page. You can easily update your server from version 1.0 by following the steps described in the WebIssues manual. Note that the Desktop Client version 1.0 will not work with server version 1.1 and vice versa. You can install version 1.1 of the Desktop Client side-by-side with version 1.0, but in most cases you can simply uninstall the old version and install the new one after the server is updated.
