Link to existing bug

Submitted by swati on 2014-03-05

Is there any feature or setup to link to an existing bug in WebIssues. Don't want to add/link bug in the Description Section. Also, does it create a to-fro link meaning visible from both the bugs.

Thanks!

No, at the moment the only way to link issues is to use those hyperlinks.

Hello!

I think that linking issues (of different types eventually) is definitely a feature that could boost the power of Webissues. A tool like the TaskCoach project on Sourceforge (http://taskcoach.org/screenshots.html) manages it quite well but has not the multi-user capabilities that make WebIssues so great.

Basically, we (the company I work for) would be interested in:
- being able to link an issue to "fathers" and "sons"
- view in a separate pane the father(s) and sons

A typical application could be:
- creation of Risk, Issues,... types
- link an action plan (set of tasks) to solve the Issue, Risk...
- have a task defined at high-level
- link to it the detailed action plan (tasks) developped for instance in another meeting with the dedicated team
- being able to view easily the progress of the sub-actions in order to decide when the parent action can be closed

This linking feature would be complementary to the Project notion and would give a great flexibility in the use of the Webissues platform within large and complex industrial environments.

The way to implement the linking feature in the tool should take into account the potential further developments like:
- tree-like view vs list view similarly to what is done in TaskCoach
- user friendly linking by drag-n-dropping an issue onto another one
- linking dynamically fields (like status fields for instance) between father and son using rules (for instance, pop-up to propose putting status of father to closed if all sub-tasks are closed).

I can imagine that this feature would require adaptations to the data model and has thus a major impact but the potential is huge.

What do you think about it?
