Feature: Subscribe to issue for an external email adress to an existing issue

I like to add an external email adress to an existing issue, that is not created through email pickup.
As a workaround I tried to email from that external account, with the issue in the subject.
It works, a reply is attached in the issue, but that address is not subscribed for future notifications.

More simple: I would like to subscribe to an issue with an external email addres.

Is that possible?

You cannot do it for an existing issue. The only scenario when this works is when the issue was created from an email sent from an external address.
