Feature Request: WebIssue Task->CalDAV Support

Submitted by craig on 2016-02-25

Problem statement: I already have a Task tracking system in OwnCloud which is also my calendar / Task Management tool. This system can be updated using a CalDAV interface. Other clients which use CalDAV to talk to this OwnCloud system in my environment are my Android phone, Thunderbird-Lightning desktops, and MS-Outlook.

With this feature request I ask for WebIssues Task feature to synchronize tasks with OwnCloud [and Thunderbird-Lightning, and my android phone through OwnCloud] using CalDAV Sync. OwnCloud, like WebIssue, is PHP/MySQL based.

Thank you,
Craig A.

This definitely can be done as a custom plug-in for WebIssues. Unfortunately I don't have enough free time to do it and it sounds like only a small group of users would benefit from this.

Michał

I expect any CalDAV capable system, like Google or iCloud, could take advantage of this CalDAV feature. This is one of the benefits of using a Standards based Interface. This feature won't just be for OwnCloud. My target is OwnCloud, the next person might want to use it for their Apple iCloud, or another for Google's Cloud, or SoGo's Calendar system. Or any of the systems listed as CalDAV capable.

But if you don't have time... I am working on the same problem myself, hence the need for a WebIssue and Task Management system. :)

BTW, I'm using WI 1.1.4 more and really liking the Web Interface orthogonal layout and feature set which allows for easy switching between multiple projects and expanding detail where needed... really good job!

I'll plead that I'm ahead of my time. ;)

The convenience I see is only having to enter data once to put everything into my work flow. If you don't see a need, then it won't get done {obviously}, and I'm okay with this.

What can I say, 8 years, no inspiration? Where I'm coming from is I've used bug tracking systems for 20 years (since 1996), hated all of them (necessary evil) until WI which I'm finding easy and convenient to use. If others felt the way I do about bug trackers, I'd have as little to do with them as possible too. Which is another way of saying, I wouldn't spend much time thinking about how to better use one. In the past a bug tracker has been a required thing, not a useful thing.

Mantis has been installed on my system for about 4 years. It's a great tool, but I couldn't figure out how to use it effectively, so other than a few attempts to apply it to things I do, it sat, doing little for me. I used WI more in the last week than I used Mantis in the last 4 years. WI is straightforward, easy to use, and understand. WI Data fields and Filters can be pared down to no more than is needed, or expanded to what is needed, easily. The only other tool I'm considering is "The Bug Genie" because it has GIT integration and is a PHP/MySQL system. Unfortunately I'll have to recompile my PHP interpreter to get a feature required by Bug Genie, so it sits. WI worked out of the box on my system, no exotic features required, and GIT works well enough by itself, though issue integration would be nice (enjoyed JIRA/SVN issue/repository integration convenience).
