Unable to get Ubuntu 11.10 WebIssues Client to work

Submitted by kanishka on 2012-01-30

I installed web issues server v1.00 on a server on the local network with IP - 192.168.2.100. We issues is installed in a subfolder called "webissues" so the URL to the webissues web frontend on the local network is:

http://192.168.2.100/webissues

Then I installed WebIssues client for Ubuntu from the Ubuntu Software Center. I am using Ubuntu 11.10 so the web issues client that was installed from the Software Center was "webissues 1.0~alpha4-2".

After installing the client, I opened it and when asked to enter the address of the Web Issues server, I entered the following:

http://192.168.2.100/webissues

Then I get an error message: "Connection could not be opened. This is an unsupported version of WebIssues server."

Please tell me how I can connect to web issues server from my Ubuntu client.

Appreciate if someone will help me soon. I'm impatient to start using WebIssues on my Ubuntu!

Michal,

it seems that Webissues Ubuntu maintainer a has very original update policy.

At this moment stable version of Webissues 1.0 is only available for development version of Ubuntu. The latest Webissues in stable repository is still Webissues is 1.0-alpha, which makes no sense.

On servers people often use even older Ubuntu - LTS (long term support). Even though it should still be supported, as you can see in the website you linked, the last update of Webissues for the oldest still supported Ubuntu was hundreds of weeks ago...

I tried to report this as a question in Launchpad, and afterwards as a bug, but with no luck.

Best regards

I'd prefer to avoid compilation from sources, so I temporary installed portable Webissues client with Wine. So far it seems to work fine, and unlike webclient it can export PDFs (and of course it's faster).

Now I'm waiting for release of next stable Ubuntu LTS - I hope that after this event the issue will solve itself automatically :-).
