WebIssues Client 0.9.1 released

Submitted by mimec on 2007-08-08

It took longer than I expected, but the next release of the desktop client application is complete. It contains many functional improvements: a start page was added which contains a list of recent connections;
attachments can be opened directly using the default application; the order of attributes in the details view can be changed. Also it was tested with Qt version 4.3 under both Windows and Linux and many problems were fixed, so this version is now officially supported.

Recently there was a large number of feature requests on the forums. Many thanks again for all your suggestions. Some of them were already implemented, others are planned in the upcoming releases. The amount of time I can spend on WebIssues is currently quite limited, so I cannot make any deeper changes in the architecture of the system. For now I will focus on implementing additional features in the client application, such as notifications, reporting, printing and exporting data. There is still a lot to improve in this area, so stay tuned om the next releases.

The new version of the server has an SQL Server database engine and support for the mysqli PHP extension in addition to the existing MySQL and PostrgreSQL engines. Also a user's manual was added describing the installation, configuration and improving the security of the server.

The setup and update scripts are more secure and contain more configuration checks; a server status page was also added. Logging errors was improved and is now enabled by default.

WebIssues Client ported to Qt4

Submitted by mimec on 2007-05-29

I'm glad to announce the long awaited release of the Qt4 version of the WebIssues client. It now runs natively on both Windows and Linux platforms. Windows users can use the installer which takes care of installing all necessary libraries. Linux users will need Qt4 and CMake to compile the application. Some binary packages will be provided as well in near future.

I also created a user's manual for the client, making the development officially reach the beta stage. In a month or so I will release another version with more functional improvements along with a new version of the server with it's own manual and some small fixes.

New client and server released

Submitted by mimec on 2007-02-12

Today new versions of both the client and the server were released: Client 0.8.4 and Server 0.8.2.

The client has a greatly improved issue history view which combines comments, attachments and changes into a single view and supports finding text and context menus. The comment editor has also been improved and now it's a separate window, not a dialog box. Finally, uploading and downloading attachments is more comfortable now, a progress bar is displayed during the transfer and remote files are handled correctly.

The server can now store attachments as files, not only in the database. This capability greatly improves performance for large attachments and helps using the server when database space is limited. A script which updates the database allows to smoothly upgrade from version 0.8.1.

WebIssues Client 0.8.3 released

The main feature implemented in this release is filtering issues shown in the folder view and quick searching by issue name. This makes working with folders containing a lot of issues much easier. Commonly used filters can be saved and quickly selected from a dropdown list.

This release also introduces a lot of smaller improvements and bug fixes. See the Change Log for a full list of changes. I would like to thank everyone for their comments and bug reports.

The next release will have an improved bug history view combining comments, attachments and attribute changes. I'm also planning to create a user's manual and do some more testing and bugfixing in order to enter the beta stage of development. After that I will start porting the client to KDE4 and no new features will be added to the 0.8.x versions.
